Huge Tree Pastry, a renowned Taiwanese breakfast spot in the SGV, is famous for its delectable purple rice fan tuan (rice roll). Having visited two weekends in a row due to my recent cravings, I must say the fan tuan is generously sized, with an option to add pickles and egg. Unfortunately, on my last two visits, I noticed the rice seemed dry and challenging to eat. Additionally, I tried the radish cake, meatball, and beef sandwich, and they were just okay. While it's a decent spot for Taiwanese breakfast, I'm uncertain if it's the best in town. A helpful tip: bring cash, order ahead on the phone, and note that there's no dine-in option.

Be careful, everything is piping hot!  The fan tuan, sesame bread, and soy milk were all delicious and fresh, but super super hot that they burned my tongue.  Styrofoam cups work really well, because my soy milk was still very warm four hours later.

This was a hearty carb breakfast that kept me full all day.

I love their purple jasmine rice roll. It's my favorite food at this restaurant. No dine in.

Delicious authentic Taiwanese breakfast spot. As of 9/2023, it is still take out only so be prepared to eat in your car for the freshest tasting experience. The egg omelette pancake 蛋餅 and flakey sesame bread with scallion egg inside 燒餅夾蛋 are my favorites. They are also famous for the fan tuan rice roll with purple rice or white rice. There's the option to add pickles and egg to the roll. I also like their sweet iced soy milk. Make sure to ask them for utensils and straws if needed as the default would be none. Free parking lot in front. Support mom and pop business!

Hands down the most authentic traditional Taiwanese breakfast spot. The rice ball (with purple rice) is always great, and the danbing/egg pancake is fantastic, too. There's almost always a line and hard to call in to order ahead because they are always busy. But the line moves fast because the staff are efficient.

Fan Tuan was super delicious. There's construction on Atlantic and I was near there for work. Needing breakfast and not knowing any mandarin or Formosan languages I asked politely if they had coffee. The person at the door was amazing. Although they don't have coffee she said next door had Vietnamese coffee. I asked what she recommended and she said the Fan Tuan. She explained what it was and I was sold. Now I'll be looking for this as my new go to breakfast.

I'm so offended that this place has such a low rating. This is my favorite hidden gem in LA county. The Taiwanese breakfast is so legit here! I'm Taiwanese and have been to Taiwan multiple times and I think the fantuan here is better than in Taiwan. It has the purple rice - which is so hard to find in Taiwan.

Sure, this place is cash only but whatever. Go get cash.

And I think the prices are not too expensive. You have to pay $15 for a sandwich in LA. I think $6 for a fantuan is a STEAL.

As of the date of this review, they are to-go only. A bit disappointing that you can't eat in but I guess they're still suffering the effects of the pandemic.
